PM Abbasi accepts Zahid Hamid's resignation
Zahid Hamid said that he has a firm belief in the finality of Prophethood (PBUH).
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister (PM) Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday has accepted resignation of Federal Law Minister Zahid Hamid, sources told.
The minister tendered his resignation to normalize the situation disrupted by Tehreek-i-Labaik Ya Rasool Allah‘s (TLYR) protesters, who occupied a main highway leading into the federal capital since November 6.
Zahid Hamid said that he has a firm belief in the finality of Prophethood (PBUH) and did not believe that anything he had done was wrong.
Following his resignation, TLYR called off the sit-in protest as its key demand was met. "On the assurance of the Chief of Army Staff, we are calling off the sit-in," Khadim Hussain Rizvi told a crowd of around 2,500 demonstrators.
Hamid’s ousting is the latest in a series of heavy blows to the ruling party.
In July Nawaz Sharif was deposed as prime minister by the courts over graft allegations, while finance minister Ishaq Dar -- also accused of corruption has taken indefinite medical leave.
On Saturday, nearly three weeks after the protests began, around 8,500 armed security personnel finally confronted the protesters, during which at least six people and injuring dozens.
The government ordered police and paramilitaries to stand down after the clashes and called on the army to intervene to restore order. By Monday morning there still had been no official response from the military.
